The former Wisconsin Welcome Center located at the intersection of Highways 11, 35, 61 and 151 is closed. Helpful staff members located at the Platteville Chamber office will now offer directions and suggestions for activities in the area, as well as the entire state of Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Great River Road begins as you enter Wisconsin. Follow the green pilot's wheel to the Dickeyville turn off. At this point, you will now follow Wisconsin's Great River Road through 33 interesting villages. Enjoy your drive!
For an interesting side trip, at the above mentioned intersection, head east going toward Hazel Green. Drive about two miles , and watch for a sign that says "Z South". Turn right on Z, and drive past the beautiful chapel & home of the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters, known as Sinsinawa Mound. The chapel is noted for its beautiful craftmanship & stained glass. In years past, many in state as well as out of state, students received their education here at St. Clara Academy. Today, many people come for retreats or conferences. Visit the Bookshop where they sell bakery products, books, jewely, art and more. Please check in at the front desk upon arrival.
Returning to the above interesection, continue north to Kieler nestled on the right side of the highway. Over the years, Kieler has been a fast growing community being situated so close to Dubuque, yet has maintained its simplicity with the beautiful Immaculate Conception Catholic Church being the focal point of the village.
As you continue your journey northward......
