 From Cassville, continue on The Great River Road north on Cty. VV to Cty V. Turn right on Cty V to visible intersection of Cty VV, turn left on Cty VV to intersection of Cty A, turn left, (west) on Cty. A and continue into Bagley. This quiet river town offers two inviting campgrounds - one on either end of the village. Between them, they boast 350 campsites, miniature golf, a swimming pool, a boat ramp, cabin and trailer rentals, two established eating places with daily specials, grocery store, post office, boat repair shop & marina and a nine room hotel. In addition a well respected Fire Department and First Responders Unit with Med-Flight from LaCrosse if needed.
Bagley is well known in this area as a "duck hunter's paradise" because of the national flyway leading to and from Canada. Plan in advance to include this beautiful area in your fall recreation plans!
Leading east from Bagley on Cty A, turn right on Dugway Road for treat of the backwaters. It parallels the railroad tracks & the backwaters but from a much higher elevation through the woods to Glen Haven.
As you travel south on this gravel road in the fall,look out and see the many muskrat huts already built in anticipation of the coming of winter. The "oldtimers" say that one can tell by the height of their huts what kind of spring to expect.
From Bagley, running parallel with the Burlington Northern Railroad tracks, follow Cty. X north to the village of Wyalusing where youŽll find a nice sand swimming beach along the river, and seasonal camping available. Continue on Cty. X north two miles to Wyalusing State Park. Wisconsin's oldest state park with scenic lookouts, campgrounds, picnic areas and hiking trails. A marked canoe trail winds through the Mississippi River backwaters. From the park, follow Cty. C northeast to Hwy. 18/35 which continues north across the Wisconsin River.
While on Cty C, you will pass over the beautiful commerative bridge built by the state of Wisconsin to honor The Great River Road.
For an interesting side trip, take Cty A East from Bagley to Hwy 133, turn left and drive into Bloomington. Included on this busy main street is a pottery shop, meat market, furniture & gifts store, hardware store, bank, floral shops, antiques, bakery, supper club, convenience & food mart,just to name a few busy businesses you will find in this agricultural community!
To find your way back to the GRR & National Scenic Byway, follow Hwy 133 South to North Andover, turn right on Cty V to Glen Haven
Watch for Cty V V South, turn left and drive through this wooded, scenic area into Cassville. |
