Ferryville is a little village perched on a narrow shelf between the river and bluffs. The hamlet began life as “Humble Bush” but became Ferryville when ferry service across the river was established in the mid-19th century.
An observation deck offers a beautiful view across Lake Winneshiek, a widened area of the Mississippi River formed by the Lynxville dam. A boat landing offers opportunities for hunters, fishermen and boaters.
Previously known for its cheese factory (no longer operating), now known as Cheese & More, a gas station & convenience store offers a wide variety of cheese & curds. Also in the village are 3 restaurant / bars, 2 motels,
a B & B, beauty shops, a pottery shop (open in the summer), a craft shop and a liquidator store known for its fireworks.
The last Saturday in July is River Bluff Daze featuring outhouse races and a terrific fireworks display.
Sugar Creek Park at the south end of town is a great place to visit with its playground and primitive camp sites. During summer months ”Market In The Park” with seasonal plants & produce, crafts, Amish goods and a flea market is open on weekends and holidays.
The Ferryville area is also home to the Sugar Creek Bible Camp and the Old Tyme Quilt Shoppe.
