The National Historic District shows architectural styles of the late 1800s and early 1900s. Blocks within the District are separated by unique stairways given street names. Alma is located along the Mississippi River, stretched snugly between the river and steep 500 foot bluffs. Early settlers were attracted to the area because it reminded them of their homeland, Switzerland. Self-guided walking tour information is available at City Hall.
