The varied terrain of the Upper Mississippi River Valley offers bicyclists an array of challenging pedal pushing. Think of the Mississippi River Valley as a giant half-pipe snaking its way along Wisconsin 's western border. On the valley floor you go with the flow; the riding is easy as you shadow the river from one picturesque town to another. But to turn east – away from the river – you've got to power up the side of the half-pipe; up 500-foot limestone bluffs. It's not an easy climb, but the bluff-top views are spectacular.
